About the Role

We’re seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to improve the stability, performance, and maintainability of software systems in a demanding financial technology environment. This role combines software development, infrastructure engineering, automation, and production troubleshooting.

You’ll build tools that reduce manual work, investigate complex technical issues, and help engineering teams operate applications more reliably. The position is suited to someone who enjoys programming as much as understanding how software behaves in production.

Key Responsibilities

Reliability Engineering and Automation

  • Develop internal tools, scripts, and services that automate repetitive engineering tasks.
  • Improve application reliability by identifying recurring failures and addressing their underlying causes.
  • Build software that simplifies deployment, testing, and production support.
  • Review existing processes and identify opportunities to reduce operational complexity.
  • Develop maintainable solutions that support long-term system stability.

Infrastructure and Production Systems

  • Investigate application performance, infrastructure dependencies, and unexpected system behavior.
  • Use logs, monitoring data, and diagnostic tools to identify technical problems.
  • Support incident investigation, service recovery, and follow-up improvements.
  • Evaluate system configurations and recommend changes that improve reliability.
  • Help applications remain stable as workloads and operational requirements change.

Software Development and Collaboration

  • Write production-quality code for engineering utilities and internal applications.
  • Work with software developers to improve application design, testing, and deployment workflows.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Investigate difficult software and infrastructure issues using structured troubleshooting methods.
  • Document technical findings and share practical solutions with engineering colleagues.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Programming and Engineering Fundamentals

  • Strong programming ability in at least one modern language, with Python particularly relevant.
  • Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of distributed applications and how services communicate.
  • Experience using Git or comparable version control tools.
  • Familiarity with automated testing, build systems, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Ability to troubleshoot unfamiliar software and infrastructure problems independently.
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and collaborative problem-solving ability.

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience, is required.

Additional Technical Experience

Experience in the following areas is valuable, although the exact combination will depend on the projects involved:

  • Linux and UNIX: Operating system fundamentals, administration, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Networking: Application connectivity, network protocols, and service communication.
  • Cloud infrastructure: Cloud-hosted services and distributed application environments.
  • Python and SQL: Automation, data analysis, database queries, and internal tooling.
  • Web technologies: JavaScript, React, or CSS for developing engineering interfaces.
  • Monitoring and observability: Application metrics, logging, and diagnostic instrumentation.
  • Performance engineering: Capacity analysis, bottleneck investigation, and system optimization.
  • Recovery and resilience: Fault testing, incident analysis, and application recovery strategies.

Engineering Environment and Working Style

This position offers a combination of hands-on development and production systems engineering. You’ll work on technical challenges that require careful investigation, sound judgment, and solutions that remain useful beyond the immediate problem.

What to Expect

  • Engineering-focused SRE work: Build and improve software rather than focusing exclusively on monitoring and incident response.
  • Technical ownership: Investigate problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement improvements from start to finish.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work with software developers, infrastructure engineers, and other technical specialists.
  • Practical automation: Replace repetitive manual processes with dependable engineering tools.
  • Varied technical challenges: Work across application development, infrastructure, distributed systems, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Continuous improvement: Use recurring incidents and operational inefficiencies to identify opportunities for lasting changes.

Salary, Bonus, and Benefits

Compensation

  • Annual base salary: $175,000 to $300,000, depending on technical expertise, professional experience, qualifications, and role responsibilities.
  • Discretionary performance bonus: Annual bonus compensation may approach or exceed 100% of base salary.
  • Bonus considerations: Actual awards depend on individual performance, business results, and other applicable factors. No specific bonus amount is guaranteed.

Employee Benefits

Eligible employees may have access to:

  • Medical insurance and healthcare coverage.
  • Life insurance benefits.
  • Retirement savings programs.
  • Tax-advantaged savings opportunities.
  • Additional health and wellness benefits.

Available Locations

Opportunities may be available in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Availability varies according to engineering team requirements and current staffing needs.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This Site Reliability Engineer position is well suited to someone who wants to combine software development with infrastructure and production engineering.

  • Build software tools that improve how engineering teams operate applications.
  • Work on technically demanding systems with meaningful reliability requirements.
  • Apply Python and broader programming skills to automation and operational challenges.
  • Develop expertise across Linux, networking, distributed systems, and application performance.
  • Contribute to architectural improvements and long-term engineering solutions.

If you enjoy investigating complex systems, writing useful software, and solving problems that affect production reliability, this role offers a broad range of engineering challenges and opportunities for technical ownership.
