About the Role
We’re looking for a Platform Engineer to build software and tools that help engineering teams work more efficiently. You’ll develop backend services, automate infrastructure tasks, and improve the systems used to build and deploy applications.
This role combines software development with cloud engineering. You’ll work with technologies such as Kubernetes, Linux, and open-source tools. You’ll also support large-scale computing systems used in quantitative financial research.
Key Responsibilities
Software and Developer Tools
- Build and maintain internal applications and backend services.
- Create command-line tools and web interfaces for engineers.
- Connect applications with cloud services and infrastructure systems.
- Improve existing software to make it faster and easier to maintain.
- Work with developers to identify problems and build useful solutions.
Cloud Infrastructure and Automation
- Build infrastructure that supports large computing workloads.
- Use Infrastructure as Code to manage cloud resources.
- Automate application deployment and environment setup.
- Work with containers and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
- Improve the stability of development and production environments.
- Evaluate open-source tools that can simplify infrastructure management.
Engineering and Project Ownership
- Write clean, reliable code using suitable languages and frameworks.
- Help make decisions about software design and architecture.
- Find and fix problems across applications and infrastructure.
- Manage technical projects from planning through delivery.
- Work with other engineers to improve development processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Software Engineering Experience
- Experience building and maintaining software applications.
- Strong programming skills and knowledge of software design.
- Understanding of operating systems, backend services, and infrastructure.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems.
- Experience working independently and collaborating with engineering teams.
- A degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
Programming Languages
Experience with one or more of these languages is helpful:
- Go: Backend services and cloud applications.
- Python: Automation, scripting, and software development.
- Rust: Systems programming and reliable software.
- C++: Systems development and high-performance applications.
- Ruby: Scripting and internal development tools.
You don’t need to know every language. Strong programming skills and the ability to learn new tools are more important.
Cloud and Open-Source Technologies
Experience with these tools and technologies would be valuable:
- Kubernetes: Managing containers and application workloads.
- Docker: Packaging and running applications in containers.
- Terraform or OpenTofu: Managing infrastructure through code.
- Cloud platforms: Deploying applications and managing computing resources.
- Linux: Working with operating systems and command-line tools.
- CI/CD: Automating software builds, tests, and deployments.
- Open-source software: Using, integrating, or contributing to open-source projects.
- APIs and developer tools: Connecting services and building useful interfaces.
These are examples of relevant technologies. Experience with every tool is not required.
Engineering Environment
You’ll work on projects that connect software development with infrastructure. Some tasks will involve building new applications. Others will focus on automation, cloud resources, or improving existing systems.
The goal is to give engineers reliable tools that make their work easier.
What to Expect
- Varied projects: Work on backend software, cloud systems, and developer tools.
- Open-source technology: Explore tools and frameworks that solve real engineering problems.
- Project ownership: Make technical decisions and manage work through completion.
- Team collaboration: Work directly with engineers who use the systems you build.
- Large-scale computing: Support applications used in quantitative financial research.
- Practical solutions: Focus on software that is reliable, useful, and easy to maintain.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This Platform Engineer role offers a mix of software development and infrastructure work. You’ll have the chance to use different technologies while solving problems that affect engineering teams every day.
- Build tools and services used by other developers.
- Work with Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and open-source software.
- Improve infrastructure through automation and better tooling.
- Help shape software design and technical decisions.
- Take responsibility for projects from start to finish.
This position is a good fit for an engineer who enjoys writing code, learning new technologies, and making complex systems easier to use.
